How am I going to get rid of my pregnancy cellulite?

I absolutely love and adore my baby, and nothing comes between us when it comes to her health and welfare.  But shortly after giving birth, I noticed those dimple spots of fat we’ve all come to know as cellulite. Ugh!

My poor thighs and oh, that cellulite ass.  I thought I would never get back to my pre-pregnancy figure.  Now I was never a model or rock star, but I definitely had a nice figure that I was proud of.  Although I was careful with my eating and exercise during my pregnancy, I knew I could not sit on my big cellulite arse and expect the cellulite fat to magically disappear.

After doing some research, I learned that it was an old myth that a woman can’t do anything strenuous for six weeks after giving birth.  In fact, you can begin to do some mild exercises as soon as twenty-four hours after giving birth.  Now I was not going to run a marathon the day after my baby was born, but I was certainly ready to start getting rid of that pregnancy fat.

Another thing I learned about cellulite is that most of the reading that I did on products, creams, lotions, machines was just about completely false.  Cellulite is nothing magical or mystical: it is body fat.  It’s the same body fat that appears in other parts of your body.  Knowing this, I learned that I had the power and ability to reduce and eliminate my pregnancy cellulite!

I started very quickly after the baby was born, and I eased my way into some mild isometrics. Isometrics are where you tighten up some certain muscles, holding them tight for several seconds, and then releasing them. I started with the simple pelvic tilt first because this would directly affect the area where my pregnancy cellulite appeared. Of course I continued my Kegel muscle exercises as I did throughout my pregnancy.

Soon after, I started introducing other mild exercises like a modified crunch, not a complete abdominal crunch but a pelvic tilt with a slight raising of my head and shoulders off the floor. This did wonders for my whole mid-section, and it also worked well for the top of my buttocks.

I started to see results in the first couple of weeks, and I was happy and encouraged to go on. My next cellulite exercise was to lay on my back on the carpet, and keeping one leg bent with my foot on the floor and the other leg was flat on the ground. From here I could bring my knee of the leg that was flat upward toward me by bending it and at the same time, I lifted that same foot off the ground upward toward the ceiling. To release, I would lower my foot back down and retrace the moves in reverse.

Another great cellulite exercise is known as “the square”. It starts with your legs in the same position as the exercise above, and then you lift the straightened leg up off the ground approximately twelve inches. The fun part is that you ten slowly trace a square in the air, pointing out the corners of your square with your big toe. You start with a small square at first, but over a short period of time, as you build your strength you can increase the size of the square.

One of my favorite pastimes is also one of the best cellulite reducers as well: walking! My baby loves going out in the stroller, and so do I when I know it’s reducing my cellulite. You can start a walking program within some weeks after you give birth. Check with your doctor first. Some can start a walking program after a few weeks while others may need six or seven weeks recovery.

After six weeks, you can raise the bar a little bit in your efforts to get rid of your pregnancy cellulite. Now you can work up to some cardiovascular exercises, such as light jogging or some strength training. In your weight training you can use a combination of body weight exercises and free-weight exercises.

As I saw my cellulite disappear and my toned legs and bottom take shape, I thought if I was going to be a “good mother.” If you do think of something like this then take comfort in knowing that you will be a better mother for a couple of significant reasons. First, you are setting an example for your newborn baby that will probably rub off on her, having a powerful impact on how she approaches similar circumstances in life. Also, you will be a happier, stronger and more energetic mom, especially without that unsightly pregnancy cellulite.
